About Us
Merzbacher’s is a wholesale bread bakery rooted in Germantown, Philadelphia. We make bread meant to be shared—honest loaves crafted with care, priced so people can actually eat them every day. Our bread shows up in restaurants, grocery stores, and community spaces across the region.
We care a lot about what we make—and about building something that lasts. That means treating people well, running clean systems, and following through on what we say we’ll do.
The Job
You clean the bakery at the end of the day so it’s ready for the next one. Bathrooms, baking floor, dish area, handwashing stations, office. You follow the checklist, use the right chemicals and tools for each space, restock what needs restocking, and lock up when you leave.
Additional time each week can be spent on deep cleaning projects. These include but are not limited to equipment cleaning and spaces that need a little more time.
This isn’t a role where you can cut corners and no one notices. A bakery that isn’t clean is a bakery that can’t operate. The production team arrives early the next morning counting on a reset space. You’re the reason that works.
What You’ll Do
- Bathrooms. Toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors. Restock paper towels, soap, toilet paper. Empty trash. Leave it ready for people who work long shifts on their feet.
- Baking floor. Sweep first when needed, then scrub. Use the floor scrubber where it fits; mop the tight spots. Main areas first—around the tables, ovens, mixing area, key walkways. If you move racks or equipment to clean underneath, put them back.
- Dish area. Sweep and scrub floors. Keep the mop sink tidy. Refill chemicals. Leave staged orders alone—don’t rearrange what production has set up.
- Handwashing stations. Clean sinks, restock paper towels and soap, empty trash.
- Breakroom. Sweep floors, wipe surfaces, empty trash and recycling.
- Before you leave. Clean out the floor scrubber and put it on charge. Return supplies, hang brooms. Confirm all doors are locked. The bakery should be secure and ready.
- Deep cleaning of equipment and areas of the bakery that are not serviced on daily intervals.
What We Expect
The checklist gets done fully—not mostly. Floors are cleaned with the right method for the space. Supplies are restocked so the next shift doesn’t start behind. Equipment is cared for. The building is locked. You show up reliably and do the job the same way every time.
